Laser Surgery

What is Laser and how does it work?

Laser stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. A Laser is a device which generates an intense beam of light. The Carbon Dioxide Laser produces an invisible beam, which heats and vaporizes tissue almost instantaneously. That is done so precisely that normal surrounding tissues are hardly affected.

Is Laser surgery a new technique?

No, Lasers have been used in surgery for more than 20 years.

What is a Laser used for?

There are many uses for Lasers. Several routine surgeries, including spays and neuters can be performed with the Laser. The Laser works extremely well in de-clawing and the removal of many tumors by reducing swelling, blood loss and pain.

Is the Laser like x-ray?

No. There is no ionizing radiation present in the Laser.

Does it hurt?

Studies report that there is less pain during and after Laser surgery. Before using Laser, your veterinarian may choose to sedate or anesthetize your pet.

What are the advantages to Laser treatment?

When using the Laser it is frequently possible to complete a treatment in one visit, which might otherwise require additional visits or even hospitalization. The after-affects of treatment, such as pain, swelling and drainage are usually much less.

Does pregnancy preclude Laser surgery?

No. In fact, the Laser allows some conditions, which could not be safely treated in other ways, to be treated during your animal's pregnancy.

How do I care for the treated area?

Since the Laser is used to treat so many different areas of the body, your veterinarian will give you instructions about after-care for your pet's individual case.

Advantages of Laser Surgery:

Virtually Painless

The Laser seals nerve endings, reducing post-operative pain. The Laser also seals lymphatic tissue, which reduces swelling. The healing is more comfortable.

Less Bleeding

The Laser shrinks small blood vessels, considerably reducing bleeding.

Reduces Infections

The Laser sterilizes as it lases and does not touch the tissue.

Decreases Anesthetic Time

The Laser allows many procedures to be done under local anesthesia and may reduce the use of general anesthesia, thus reducing risk.

If your pet required surgery, how would you like that surgery performed?

Would you like to take your pet home knowing:

  • Your pet had the procedure done with Laser, and had a significant reduction in pain!

  • Your pet had the procedure done with Laser, and will recover faster and with less discomfort!

  • Your pet had the procedure done with Laser, and had less bleeding and swelling is minimal!

  • Your pet had the procedure done with Laser, and had required fewer stitches or eliminated sutures completely!

  • Your pet had the procedure done with Laser, which is very precise!

The use of the carbon dioxide Laser largely replaces the scalpel in our office. We take great pride in being the first veterinary hospital in Bucks County to use this Laser. Acceptance of the Laser has been extremely high.

Our new Laser works safely and effectively with a reduction or elimination of sutures, post-treatment pain, swelling, and bleeding.

Many procedures can be done in our office the same day, without having to bring your pet back for surgery and an overnight stay. This will save you a lot of time.

Our desire is to provide your pet the best health care possible, combining the latest advances in veterinary procedures with a personal commitment to your pet's health.
